Following its defeat in the War of 1870 and the Treaty of Frankfurt on May 10, 1871, France established a defense system: the Séré de Rivière Line. Thus, in 1879, Frouard was equipped with a fortified complex: Fort Frouard and the Éperon Battery.
During Heritage Days, the ASPFF invites you to come discover or rediscover the Éperon Battery during a tour lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The battery still houses the world’s only Galopin retractable turret for 155 Long cannons, as well as two Mougin casemates—the only ones in the Grand-Est region—one of which has been fully restored.
