Maison des Soeurs Macarons

Located in the pedestrian district of Place Stanislas, at 21 Rue Gambetta, Maison des Sœurs Macarons, founded in 1793 and run by pastry chef Nicolas Génot, is the only family-owned confectionery to hold the closely guarded and highly coveted recipe for the authentic Nancy macaron: the Macaron des Sœurs. This delicate pastry, made from a mixture of egg whites, sugar, and almonds from Provence—and nothing else—is a legacy of two sisters (Marie Morlot and Marguerite-Suzanne Gaillot) from the Benedictine Community of the Blessed Sacrament. The “Macaron des Sœurs” is characterized by its beautiful cracked surface, a flavor of ground almonds, and a shelf life of up to four weeks. Maison des Sœurs Macarons is also the first gourmet company in Lorraine to have received, in 2012, the EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant) state label—a recognition awarded by the Ministry of the Economy to French companies demonstrating excellence in artisanal craftsmanship. A refined confectionery offering the unique “Macaron des Sœurs,” the “Bergamote de Nancy”—which has held the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) certification for nearly 30 years, as well as Mirabelle plum specialties, artisanal chocolates, and fruit jellies. Maison Des Sœurs Macarons offers both in-store and online sales in France and abroad. The Nancy macaron, the “Pearl of Lorraine,” the bergamot-flavored Pain de Gênes cake, the spiced mirabelle plum cake, Florentines, and bergamot candies all carry the “Nancy Passions Sucrées” label.
